Day Walking Activities:

Spirit Asia Travel itineraries designed most of the day include some walking or hiking. We walks through city streets, villages, market, temples, and require the ability to climb stairs and ramps. Day walking/hike is part of our multi-day adventures activities, the ability to navigate narrow paths and moderately steep climbs is required during the trip.


DAY 1:  ARRIVAL PHNOM PENH 

On your first day in Cambodia, according to your arrival time, we will be pleased to give you some suggestions on interesting activities for your free time in Phnom Penh. And in the evening our guide will host you for the welcome dinner in one of the local restaurants with the delicious Khmer foods. The riverfront of Phnom Penh Capital is the best place for nightlife and enjoying the evening in this charming city in Indochina. Overnight in Phnom Penh

DAY 2:  KOMPONG CHAM

After breakfast at the hotel, we will drive North out of the city to Kampong Cham, the third largest town of Cambodia, located on the banks of the mighty Mekong River. We will visit Wat Nokor a temple built from sandstone and laterite in the 11th century as well as Phnom Pros and Phnom Srei (“Man and Woman Hill”). In the afternoon riding bicycles to the Koh Pean Island to meet children of these poor villages and give them some school supplies, toothbrushes, food and little joy. On the way, you will be able to see the activities of the locals at the paddy field and inside the village. This type of real life experience in Cambodia will allow you to share some vibrant moments with people. During the dry season, we will reach the island by crossing the bamboo bridge (which is rebuilt every year) and during the wet season; a ferry will take us to other side. Overnight in Kampong Cham

DAY 3:  MONDULKIRI

We will have an early breakfast at the hotel before travelling to the province of Mondulkiri. This journey will take around five hours passing along many rubber plantations including the biggest one of the country at Chhup. Our journey will continue to the village of Snoul, which is famous for cultivation of fruit. This town has a large market where we will stop for lunch and to taste some of their delicious fruit. We will overnight at Sen Monorom, the quiet provincial capital city of Mondulkiri. Overnight in Mondulkiri

DAY 4:  ELEPHANT TREKKING 

Mondul Kiri means “meeting of the hills” a suitable name for such a hilly province. At an elevation of 800m, it is chilly at night.  Almost half the 30,000 inhabitants are from the Phnong minority group with the Chunchiet people making up most of the remaining population.
Today we will enjoy an elephant trek from one of the minority ethnic villages which will give you the opportunity to explore surrounding jungle, habitat and ethnic minority villages and will certainly be a memorable experience. Organising these treks are an important source of income for the villagers.  Overnight in Mondulkiri

DAY 5:  FREE AT LEISURE   

Today will be a free day with no planned activities so you can choose between the many possibilities offered by the area. Explore the local market where many of the Phnong people from the nearby villages come to trade with the distinctive baskets they carry on their back. Visit some of the hill tribes’ villages and see a minority cultural show or make an excursion to a waterfall of which there are over a 100 in this area. The most famous is Boosra Waterfall, the biggest in Cambodia, 35 km from town. Overnight in Mondulkiri

DAY 6:  KRATIE

After an early breakfast with our host family, we will say goodbye and travel to the province of Kratie by local transport, such as bus, pick-up truck or van. The journey will take about 6 hours including a break for rest and drink at the village of Snoul where you can buy other delicious local fruits.
We will arrive in Kratie for lunch. This city is quite well-preserved and still has some good examples of shop house architecture as well as some old Khmer wooden houses but the highlight is that it is the best place in Cambodia to see the freshwater Irrawady dolphins.
After check-in at the hotel, we will have lunch at the local restaurant just next door of the hotel. Then, we will go to the Cambodian Rural Development Team project to learn more about what is being done to support dolphin conservation efforts and see some demonstration activities, before driving 15km north of the town to enjoy a boat trip onto the Mekong to glimpse these rare and timid creatures at sunset. DAY 7:  PHNOM PENH CAPITAL 

After an early breakfast, we will leave Kratie for an overland journey of about 7 hours. stopping for lunch at the village Skun. If you are still hungry after your meal and looking for a dessert, you will get the chance to taste the local specialty, the delicious famous fried spiders (Tarantula called A ping in Khmer).

Never try, never know, that’s our motto!

We will arrive at Phnom Penh in the beginning of the afternoon.
After check-in at your hotel, you will have some free time to relax or explore the city on your own.
Finally we will go for dinner at Friends, a non-profit restaurant run by street youth in training. All proceeds go to the organisation Mith Samlanh and the food is delicious. Overnight in Phnom Penh

DAY 8:  ONWARDS HOME 

This is departure day so no activities are planned. Check-out will be at noon and you are free to leave at any time. You can go out for shopping at the markets or relax at the hotel before your flight out. There are international flights to Bangkok or Vietnam and many other Asian destinations.
