SOUTHERN CAMBODIA EXPLORER

DAY 1:  ARRIVAL PHNOM PENH

There are many direct flights to Phnom Penh, Cambodia via Bangkok, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia and other destinations. According to your arrival time, our guide will be pleased to give you some suggestions what to do on your first day or afternoon in Phnom Penh. In the evening we will have a welcome dinner for our first night in Cambodia. Overnight in Phnom Penh

DAY 2:  ROYAL PALACE & KILLING FIELDS

We will visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda. This amazing place, the floor of which is covered with 5000 silver plates, houses the Preah Keo or emerald Buddha, made of Baccarat crystal. In front stands a 90 kg golden Buddha studded with 9584 diamonds. After this, we will walk about 10 minutes to the National Museum. Built around a central courtyard, the galleries, arranged chronologically, present a collection of Khmer art, mostly sculptures. In the afternoon, we will drive to the Choeng Ek killing fields and the Tuol Sleng genocide Museum - a mass gravesite and a former high school converted to a detention and torture centre by the Khmer Rouge when they came to power in 1975. Choeung Ek also serves as a memorial to those killed under the Khmer Rouge rule. Overnight in Phnom Penh

DAY 3:  TAKEO 

We will leave Phnom Penh and drive to the South. First, we will stop at Phnom Tamao wildlife sanctuary. This zoo was established to preserve and rescue rare and endangered local species from poachers and smugglers. Phnom Tamao is home to 70 Sun bears and Asiatic bears that have been rescued with the help of the NGO Free the Bears whose aim is to protect, preserve and enrich the lives of bears and those who live alongside them throughout the world. Then we will continue our journey with a 40-minute boat trip along the canals of Takeo, through the rice fields and marshland to visit the ancient Funan ruined temples of Phnom Da, the oldest historical site in Cambodia and Angkor Borei.  We will also visit a nearby museum housed in a small colonial building. Overnight in Takeo (Homestay)

DAY 4:  KAMPOT 

Kampot is the durian growing region of Cambodia and is also renowned for producing one of the world’s finest peppers. On the way, we will visit some limestone caves with exotic rock formations and Buddhist shrines. On arrival, we will explore the town by foot along the Kampot River to see some French colonial buildings. Later in the afternoon, we will take a boat on the Prek Kampong Bay River, which runs along the city for a sunset river cruise and our guide will offer you cold beers and snacks. Overnight in Kampot

DAY 5:  BOKOR NATIONAL PARK 

Today we will enjoy our time at Bokor Paradise. This site is located on a 1000 meter high plateau of steaming jungle, shy wildlife and abandoned buildings. The special climate of the site, often shrouded in fog and clouds, completes the mysterious atmosphere of this ghost-town. In addition, the view of the coast from the top is really spectacular. We will spend a full day in this eccentric and surprising site with a picnic lunch near the Popokvil waterfalls. Overnight in Kampot

DAY 6:  SIHANOUKVILLE 

Travel to Sihanoukville is Cambodia’s leading beach resort. There are white-sand beaches around the headland, unspoilt islands off the coast and the popular Khal Chhay waterfall near town. You will have a whole free afternoon to explore the beaches.
Dinner and drinks at some of local restaurants and bars along the beaches to enjoy sunset on the sea. Overnight in Sihanoukville

DAY 7:  BOAT TRIP & SNORKELING 

Today, we will organise a boat trip on the Gulf of Thailand. The boat will stop close to islands with rocky reefs providing a rich marine life for snorkeling before going to shore on an island with uninhabited sandy beaches where you can relax while your guide will prepare lunch. Later, we return to Sihanoukville with one or two more snorkeling stops. Overnight in Sihanoukville

DAY 8:  BEACH MOMENT 

Here, you will have a full day to unwind and enjoy the beautiful tropical environment. No activities are planned today, but there are many sights around the city which are interesting to explore.
You can spend the day in one of the numerous beautiful beaches around the peninsula, explore the surroundings of the city, or visit the maritime national park of Ream by boat to see the mangroves and wildlife on the shore.
If someone is interested in diving, this will be possible with Ecosea Dive. Overnight in Sihanoukville

DAY 9:  PHNOM PENH CAPITAL  

Leaving to Phnom Penh at around 2pm, we still have another half day to enjoy more beaches in Sihanoukville and we suggest having lunch at Starfish Bakery Café from the Starfish Project which assists disabled families and individuals to becoming independent through housing, community and water projects. Overnight in Phnom Penh

DAY 10:  FREE AT LEISURE 

After a long journey then today we will have one day to relax and explore the modern capital of Phnom Penh, which is famous for the most charming French colonial buildings in Indochina. Overnight in Phnom Penh

DAY 11:  SIEM REAP 

Today we will take a regular speedboat leaving from Phnom Penh at 7:00 am. The boat will first navigate along the Tonle Sap river before entering the Tonle Sap lake, the biggest lake of Southeast Asia. This is a very scenic and picturesque journey, you will enjoy the wonderful landscape, passing through the flooded forest and the floating villages and learn about the daily life on the lake and along the river. This marvellous journey lasts about 6 hours during the wet season but can be considerably longer in the dry season due to low water. Overnight in Siem Reap

DAY 12-13:  ANGKOR COMPLEX 

Angkor covers an area of about 402 Square Km and during this trip we will have three full days to explore this ancient capital. Our expert guide will choose the best timing to explore the main Angkor Complex including sunrise and sunset.  Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat are included as well as the small and grand circle of Angkor Area. All are amazing temples to visit and we will also drive through the interesting countryside to visit Kbal Spean and Banteay Srei temple which were built from beautiful pink sandstone. During this time at Angkor we will have the chance to visit many NGOs which we support and the Children’s Hospital and Landmine Museum. We will eat at wonderful NGO training restaurants where students of the School of Hotel and Tourism gain valuable experience through serving food to us. Overnight in Siem Reap.

DAY 14:  ONWARDS HOME 

Your tour will end after breakfast, when you will have free time to explore the central town and market or relax at the hotel before your flight out. There are international flights from Siem Reap to Bangkok, Vietnam and many other Asian destinations.
